Academia Sinica Center for Digital Cultures
The Taiwan Encyclopedia of Life (TaiEOL) is a collaborative initiative between the Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency and the Academia Sinica Center for Digital Cultures, aimed at aggregating and consolidating crucial information about known organisms in Taiwan, presented in a taxon-per-page format.
This information is made freely accessible to the public under open licensing terms, fostering research, education, conservation, and sustainable utilization of biodiversity. Our data sources encompass contributions from professional communities, public engagement, and open-access licenses. Since its inception in 2012, TaiEOL has garnered the collective efforts of over a hundred scholars, experts, and a multitude of citizen scientists. We have catalogued explanations for more than 23,000 species, covering over a third of the known species in Taiwan. It can be considered the most authoritative and comprehensive information platform for introducing knowledge about Taiwanese species.
