National Academy of Marine Research
The National Academy of Marine Research dedicates to marine policy planning, resource surveys, scientific research, and the development of marine industry. In the past, marine observation and research data in Taiwan were scattered across various government departments and research institutions, making it difficult to utilize the information effectively. To integrate ocean data from different organizations, the National Academy of Marine Research established the National Ocean Database And Sharing System (NODASS). NODASS compiles data from domestic and international marine-related databases, covering ten categories: wind fields, waves, tides, currents, vessel distribution, biological or other data, sea temperature, sea surface height, salinity, and seawater quality. The data can be applied to marine development planning, marine policy, marine spatial planning, environmental and ecological conservation, maritime safety and rescue, disaster prevention and relief, and the establishment of environmental conservation mechanisms.
