National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium
The National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium (NMMBA) is the only scientific museum in Taiwan with a primary focus on the exhibition of live marine organisms as well as carrying the important mission of marine biological collections and research. With taxonomy as its foundation, the museum has a total collection of 60,728 specimens, encompassing fishes, corals, invertebrates, and algae, serving as a vital resource for marine biodiversity studies in Taiwan. These specimens preserve morphological traits and collection data; additionally, they provide a comprehensive database for species identification, phylogenetic research, and long-term ecological monitoring after being systematically digitized and integrated into the “Biological Collections Management System”. This extensive collection system not onlyestablishes a solid foundation for taxonomy and biodiversity research but also supports education, outreach, and the preservation of natural history, positioning NMMBA as a key hub for marine knowledge and scientific heritage in Taiwan.
